Lucy Robbins
Lucy Robbins is part of a new generation of farmers helping to shape the future of British agriculture. Raised on a small family farm in the North Cotswolds, she grew up immersed in a landscape shaped by her mother and grandmother before her. Although encouraged to explore life beyond farming, Lucy made the conscious decision to return - stepping into a legacy while beginning to carve out her own path within it.
Now working across the farm’s mixed system of sheep, cattle, and arable land, Lucy is balancing tradition with a forward-looking mindset. Her experiences beyond the farm have shaped a broader perspective one that embraces openness, collaboration, and the need for change within the industry.
Lucy is also an active member of Emergent Generation, a growing network of young farmers, growers, and thinkers working to build a more sustainable food system. Through connection, shared knowledge, and collective action, the movement is helping to empower a new wave of voices across the rural and food sectors something Lucy is proud to be part of. It reflects her belief that meaningful change cannot happen in isolation, but must reach across the entire food chain, from field to fork.
Her journey hasn’t been without its challenges, but Lucy speaks with honesty about the realities of returning to farming, from mental health to the pressures facing young people entering the industry today.
At its heart, Lucy’s story is one of resilience, continuity, and quiet determination—rooted in family, grounded in place, and driven by a belief that farming can, and must, evolve.
